Digital Innovators Skills Programme for the West Midlands
If you want to develop skills that will help you unlock your potential and find a career you love, our free training programme could be for you.
In partnership with West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), we are running a series of courses for those currently not in employment or seeking to enhance their skills to develop their careers. The Digital Innovators Skills Programme will equip you with confidence, resilience and self-belief, as well as skills in:
Communication and collaboration
The Digital Innovators Skills Programme is available to anyone 18 or older in the WMCA area looking to develop skills and career opportunities. The first programme will begin on September 21st 2020. There will be five programmes delivered in total between September 2020 and September 2021.
Are you eligible?
Our course is primarily designed for ambitious young people who are looking to develop their employability and digital skills, as well as confidence in the workplace.
You don’t need to be academic, but you do need to have the right aptitude and attitude to make the most of the opportunity.
To join the free Digital Innovators Skills Programme, you must be:
- Over 18 years of age.
- A resident in the WMCA region (i.e. Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall or Wolverhampton).
- Able to attend this full-time, 13 week training course and support yourself during this period. (You may be eligible for Job Seekers Allowance or other benefits during this training – check with your local Job Centre Plus).
not in employment, education or training
OR in a job which is temporary or at risk of redundancy
OR looking to ‘up-skill’ from your current job (in which case your employer supports your involvement in this programme)
Why choose this programme?
The whole ethos behind the Digital Innovators Skills Programme is employability. Unlike many programmes, this isn’t about training you for a specific job or train you to be a coder. It’s about training you in soft skills and digital tools that can be applied to virtually any career. We will build your confidence in your abilities and help you unlock your full potential.
During the main stage of our programme, you will work directly with employers on live business challenges, to test what you’ve learned and work with your team to develop a new product, service or idea for a potential employer. This can lead directly to job opportunities or apprenticeships with our partners, as well as strengthening your CV.
How the programme works
There are several stages to our programme as shown here:
Where the training will be
To accommodate COVID-19 restrictions and to allow those with other commitments to take part, some courses will be delivered online, including the first course in September 2020.
Subsequent courses can be run from anywhere within the WMCA region. Locations for classes will be set as demand dictates to enable as many people as possible to take part.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, please register your interest. We will then send you some more information about the course together with a link to our Starting Point Assessment which will help you understand your career strengths and help us determine whether our course is a good fit for you.
